The Margery E. Yuill Cancer Center located in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is a fitting tribute to Bill’s mother – a nurse at the hospital who helped establish the Medicine Hat YMCA and was very active with the Red Cross.  Margery died of pancreatic cancer in 1965.

“It’s a nice way to remember her and make a contribution to the community that would serve the folks around Medicine Hat, southeastern Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan”

The centre allows residents to receive treatment in Medicine Hat, rather than travelling to Calgary or Edmonton. There are eight examination rooms, and space for 12 treatments to run simultaneously.

In September, the Cancer Centre moved into its new location in the renovated hospital. Dan Thomas, who manages the centre, says the donations from the golf tournament and the Yuill Foundation are important for the facility.

“It has been essential,” he said. “The years that it has been going on, and Mr. Yuill matching the donation, there is a great partnership there.”

Thomas says the funds are used to help make patients comfortable while they are undergoing treatment. The centre has eight examination rooms, and has the space for 12 treatments to run simultaneously.
