Supporting 30 Years of Care
On April 8, 2026, the Medicine Hat community gathered at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital to celebrate an important milestone; the 30th anniversary of the Medicine Hat Health Foundation. The afternoon event brought together past and present board members, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and community supporters to reflect on three decades of impact and generosity.
While the celebration honored the Foundation’s legacy, it also marked a significant step forward for local healthcare.
Advancing Care Close to Home
As part of the anniversary event, the Yuill Family Foundation announced its support for a new three-year pilot Comprehensive Breast Health Program. The initiative, delivered in partnership with the Medicine Hat Health Foundation, the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre, and Alberta Health Services, will be based in the Women’s Health Clinic at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.
The program is designed to provide timely, coordinated, and accessible care for individuals with breast health concerns—ensuring that patients can access critical services close to home, surrounded by familiar support systems.
This investment reflects a shared commitment to improving patient outcomes and strengthening healthcare in the region.
A More Connected Patient Journey
The Comprehensive Breast Health Program aims to support patients through every stage of their care journey, from initial assessment and diagnosis to treatment and recovery. By improving coordination across healthcare providers, the program will help reduce delays and close gaps in care, while ensuring patients receive consistent, high-quality support throughout their experience.
Services will include:
- Physician consultations
- Scheduling of breast biopsies
- Coordination of blood work and diagnostic imaging
- Referrals to specialized healthcare providers
- Dedicated nurse navigators to guide patients through care decisions
These nurse navigators will also provide education, advocacy, and emotional support, helping individuals better understand their options and navigate what can often be a complex and overwhelming process.
Addressing a Critical Need
The introduction of this program comes at a time when demand for coordinated breast health services continues to grow. Timely access to diagnostics, treatment planning, and support can have a meaningful impact on outcomes and patient experience.
By centralizing services and enhancing collaboration, the Breast Health Program will:
- Improve access to diagnostic services
- Increase emotional and educational support for patients
- Enhance continuity of care across healthcare agencies
The goal is simple but powerful: to ensure that individuals facing breast health concerns receive compassionate, comprehensive care without needing to leave their community.
A Commitment to Lasting Impact
The Yuill Family Foundation has committed funding for the three-year pilot to help establish and stabilize the program. Beyond that initial investment, there is a shared hope that the program will demonstrate its value and become a permanent part of healthcare delivery in the region.
Over the course of the pilot, the program will be evaluated to assess its effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
Moving Forward, Together
At its core, the Comprehensive Breast Health Program embodies a shared belief: that quality healthcare should be accessible, coordinated, and delivered close to home. Through collaboration, community investment, and a commitment to compassionate care, the Yuill Family Foundation and its partners are helping shape a stronger future for healthcare in Medicine Hat. Because when communities come together, meaningful change is possible.
